AGH UST is a leading Polish university in modern technologies, and belongs to a group of prestigious international educational centres. The university, being a technical school, serves science and industry through educating students, the development of academic staff, as well as research and development. The Faculty of Metals Engineering and Industrial Computer Science is based on six departments conducting research and teaching in metallurgy, materials science and applied computer science. Current research is focused on six main disciplines: extractive metallurgy, materials science (physical and powder metallurgy), metal forming, heat engineering and environment protection, applied computer science and computer-aided modelling of metallurgical processes, comprising all problems related to metallurgy, materials science and so-called deep forming of iron-based materials. The Faculty is research-intensive.
Numerical modelling is the main research field of Department of Applied Computer Science and Modelling. Main research topics are simulation and optimization of materials processing, multiscale modelling of materials, new numerical methods and software for materials engineering applications, application of artificial intelligence methods, such as expert systems or artificial neural networks, in material science.
