Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Wi.-Ing. Franz Berge is a graduate industrial engineer with a degree in business engineering, specializing in materials technology, marketing and research and development management. Dr. Berge holds a doctorate from the Institute of Materials Engineering at the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany, on the forming behaviour of cast-rolled and thermomechanically treated AZ31 as a function of the stress state. In his postdoctoral position, he has been working for several years on lightweight construction projects at the Institute of Metal Forming in the fields of material production and characterization as well as subsequent processing. Since September 1,2016, Dr. Berge has been the responsible coordinator of the MetLight research network funded by EIT RawMaterials GmbH.
Prof. Dr. -Ing. Prof. E. h. mult. Rudolf Kawalla was originally born in Gliwice, Poland, where he studied forming technology before joining ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG in Germany and completing his doctorate at RWTH Aachen University. In 1999 he succeeded the TU Bergakademie Freiberg as successor of Prof. Wolfgang Lehnert to the professorship for forming technology and at the same time as director of the institute for metal forming. Prof. Kawalla's work focuses on the development of materials and technology for flat products.
